DAILY RICHMOND EXAMINER, Richmond,Virginia, February 9, 1863 A nice newspaper from the capital of the Confederacy. The front page includes: "Capture Off Sabine Pass" "City Intelligence" "Latest News From the North" "The Yankee Congress--The Loyalty of Kentucky Again--McClellan Hauled Over in Congress--The Policy of the War Denounced & the Army Declared An Undisciplined Mob" "Butler In the North" "The White Man In the Northern Congress" & a few other items.
The back page includes the always interesting editorial, this one beginning: "Christendom is about to be regaled with a most savage, ridiculous, ineffectual & odoriferous novelty. Dispatches of Friday last announced that the negro soldier's bill has passed the Yankee House of Rep. by a vote of 88 to 54..." with much more. This lengthy editorial has much on the prospect of Negro soldiers (see for portions). Also on the bkpg: "Separation of The North & South" "Strange & Terrible Epidemic in the North" "Latest News From the North" and much reporting from "The Confederate Congress" and the "Virginia Legislature".
Complete as a single sheet newspaper with a full banner masthead, staining to the upper right of the front page, otherwise in nice condition.
