An interesting letter of resignation from the military for disability reasons. Handwritten and signed by Ellis T. Hinds, 1st Lt. Company B, 13th Reg. Maine infantry, dated at Martinsburg, Va., Nov. 14, 1864. It begins: "I have the honor herewith to tender my resignation as 1st Lieut. in the 13th Regiment Infantry Volunteers on account of physical disability..." with more (see). Various notes and endorsements on the reverse. Very nice condition.
