WEEKLY NEVADA STATE JOURNAL, Reno, Washoe County, July 8, 1876 Page 2 has some very nice coverage of the Custer Massacre with nearly two columns taken up with eight accounts of the events. The heads at the top of the middle column read: "THE SIOUX HORROR" "Gen. Custer Killed And His Force Annihilated" "Seventeen Officers and 315 Brave Men Massacred" "Particulars of the Terrible Slaughter" "Custer's Native Town Draped in Mourning--Intense Feeling of Sorrow Throughout The Country" (see). The full text of the various reports--updated as the latest news was received--can be seen in the photos.
