THE PENNSYLVANIA EVENING POST, Philadelphia, April 30, 1781 The front page has some war-related items including: "...the Confederacy was conducted into our harbour, a frigate carrying 28 French twelves and eight six pounders...She was taken on Saturday last off the capes of Virginia. Her commander...had made every disposition for a close engagement, when perceiving her antagonist (on hoisting English colours) run out a lower tier of guns...submitted without any resistance...the cargo consists in sugar, cotton, indigo & a large quantity of clothing for mr. Washington's army..." and more.
Another report from Pensacola reports on the Battle of Mobile, with: "...pretty secure in Pensacola, we wished to seize a post the Spaniards have at the village on this side Mobille...expecting to storm and take the fort by surprise...the enemy, informed of our design, had the night before received a reinforcement from Mobille which was vastly superior to us in numbers...Our troops behaved very gallantly but were repulsed with a very great loss..." with more (see).
The back page has a few items as well. Complete as a single sheet newspaper measuring 8 by 9 3/4 inches, great condition.
