THE NEW YORK TIMES, December 9, 1933

* Loch Ness monster becomes World known
* 1st mention in American paper

Certainly one of the more notable monster or creature searches in recent times is the Loch Ness Monster. Debate continues as to its existence. The very first mention of the Lock Ness Monster in this venerable newspaper was in this issue, with a page 6 one column heads: "Scots Will Protect Their Sea Serpent" "Orders Are Issued Not to Shoot or Trap Monster in Whisky Region" with the report beginning: "Official recognition has been given to a strange monster that is supposed to inhabit the waters of Loch Ness & which has become a standing joke among visitors to this part of Scotland, where the strongest whisky is distilled...." with more (see).
Much more mention of this curiosity would appear in future issues of the Times and other newspapers, but this was the first. Complete in 34 pages, very nice condition.
