NATIONAL INTELLINGENCER, Washington D.C., August 14, 1849 Page three of this issue contains "OFFICIAL" "By the President of the United Sates - A Proclamation" "There is reason to believe that an armed expedition is about to be fitted out in the United States with an intention to invade the Island of Cuba or some of the Provinces of Mexico. The best information which the Executive has been able to obtain points to the Island of Cuba as the object of this expedition..." This is signed in type: Z. TAYLOR. Also on page three "From Florida" "Official intelligence was yesterday received at some of the Departments, to the effect that up to the 30th of July the Indians of Florida, in the vicinity of Tampa Bay, were all quiet, and it was not apprehended that any disturbances would soon occur." Also within this issue are congressional reports, news of the day and a variety of advertisements.
