THE DAILY CRESCENT, New Orleans, Louisiana, October 14, 1851
* Rare from the pre civil war deep South
* 3 slave ads, 2 being illustrated
Rarely do we have the opportunity to offer newspapers from New Orleans from before the 1880's. Here is a nice pre-Civil War issue, complete in 4 pages with a nice engraving in the masthead of a scene along the Mississippi River.
In addition to various news reports on the front page there is also a wealth of other ads, some of which are illustrated. There are 2 illustrated slave ads.
About half of page 2 is taken up with news & half with ads, and pg. 3 is the same. Not surprisingly many of the illustrated ads are for steamboats (see).
The back page is entirely taken up with ads, some of which are illustrated.
Complete in four pages, somewhat irregular at the spine, some scattered foxing, otherwise in very nice condition.
