THE OREGON STATESMAN, Salem, Oregon, May 8, 1865

* Rare Old West title
* Post Civil War & Abraham Lincoln assassination

Not only is this a very early Oregon newspaper, but it has various reports concerning the closing events of the Civil War.

The front page has: "The New President" "The Last Crime of Slavery" "The Presidency" "What the Rebels Said of Us In 1861" and more.

Page 2 has: "The Arena's Respect For President Lincoln" "Judas Iscariot & Other Traitors at the Holy Sepulchre" ""Full Confession of the Assassins" "Reward Offered for Jeff Davis & Others", this latter report taking close to a full column.

Page 3 has: "The News--The War Ended"

Complete in 4 pages, never bound nor trimmed, some fraying at the margins, very nice condition.
