The front page of this issue from the capital of the Confederacy has "General Orders, No. 11" issued by Gen. Stuart recognizing the bravery and success of the cavalry "...for the signal success attending the late expedition to the enemy's rear...", plus mention of the loss of "...the gallant and heroic Capt. Latane, leading his squadron on a brilliant and successful charge...", signed in type: J.E.B. Stuart.
On page 2 under "Later Northern News" are war-related reports, including "Gen. Johnston's Instructions To Gen. Jackson" that were found in a partially destroyed railroad car at Winchester. The back page has a poem: "Lines Addressed To The Cavalry Of The Army Of The Valley On The Death Of The Lamented Colonel Turner Ashby."
The back page also has an "Extract Of A Letter From An Officer Of Jackson's Army To His Wife", a report about "The Battle Of Port Republic" and "From Lincolndom", a report: "More Of The Battle Of Seven Pines--Yankee Loss Of 10,000 Admitted."
Some fold rubbing on the ftpg., tattered a bit at the edges, archival mends to a few spine and margin tears.
