January 04, 1863
THE NEW YORK HERALD, January 4, 1863  The front page features a rather large map headed: "THE NEW MAP OF THE UNITED STATES. Topographical View of President Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation--The Slave Territory and the New Free Territory of the Union" with below the map noting: "The Slave States are in Black; the Old Free States in White; the New Free States in White". Plus the ftpg. also has a one column map headed: "Scene of Sullivan's Exploit" with many related headlines (see), and there is also a little engraving of "The Monitor" ironclad boat, which is part of a report with heads: "THE MONITOR FOUNDERED!" "The Famous Iron-Clad Gunboat Monitor Lost Off Cape Hatteras" and more (see). There is also a wealth of various one column Civil War headlines, which together with the nice graphics makes this a very displayable issue.  Eight pgs., minor edge wear, bit of minor foxing, mostly nice.
