BOSTON EVENING TRANSCRIPT, Sept. 18, 1862 Most of a front page column is taken up with nice & early reports of the tragic Battle of Antietam, heads including: "The "Great Battle Near Sharpsburg" "Fearful Carnage on Both Sides" "The Enemy Driven Toward Hagerstown" "General Hooker Wounded". These reports are of the battle of Sept. 17, the bloodiest day of fighting of the entire war, both sides losing over 10,000 men in killed & wounded.
