THE LONDON CHRONICLE, England, Oct. 17, 1780 The ftpg. includes a report of a naval expedition "...through the Gulph of Florida..." (see). Another ftpg. report has other details of some naval affairs, signed in type: W. Cornwallis (see). Pg. 2 has some additional reports on the Revolutionary War, carrying over go pg. 3 as well, portions including: "...nor had they received advices from Lord Cornwallis of later date than the beginning of August, having heard nothing of the victory at Camden...A letter from New York says that General Clinton is obliged to continue there with his whole force, as General Washington is encamped on the borders of that province with a powerful army & is daily expected to march into it...a number of the loyal American are flocking to New York to be protected by the British forces... " with more. Another pg. has a letter from South Carolina which includes: "...Lord Cornwallis hastened to the field & on the 16th inst. happily obtained the most complete and decisive victory over Gates. His Lordship had less than 2000 men, opposed to upwards of 6000, & has incontestibly proved that our confidence in his wise and spirited conduct...The flying remains of Gate's army were totally overthrown on the 18th. I am now convinced that this extraordinary effort of Congress to regain their domination over us having failed, no other attempt will be made to disturb our quiet...In the Penna. Gazette of Aug. 23 in their accounts from the army at Charlestown they say that Lord Cornwallis had returned to Charlestown with his whole army retreating...Col. Tarleton wounded & Lord Rawdon killed; the rebels had got between Lord Cornwallis & the town..." with more (see). Yet another pg. has mostly taken up with: "American News", and includes a letter signed in type by: George Washington (see) which take most of a column. The bkpg. has over a full column of American reports "From Rivington's New York Royal "Gazette" with some nice war reports (see photos). A wealth of fine reading in this issue. Eight pgs., never bound nor trimmed, 9 1/2 by 12 in., very nice condition.
