Skowhegan, Maine toll bridge receipt, 1835...

Item # 221199 ·
Here is a very early toll bridge receipt for the Skowhegan Bridge, dated at Bloomfield, (Maine), Nov. 7, 1833. The receipt is part-printed and reads: "For value received, I promise the Proprietors Of Skowhegan Bridge to pay them or order one dollar. If not paid by the last day of September next, interest after. And conform to their regulations." It is signed by Edmond Mirow with "his mark" which is a simple "X" (see photos). The receipt is already matted and backed with foamcore ready to be displayed. It measures from edge to edge, with the matting, 4 by 9 inches. Great condition.
