THE GENTLEMAN'S MAGAZINE, London, January, 1739 (reduced price due to missing cover - otherwise complete) Within this 40 page issue are two letters concerning the state of the colony in Georgia, one datelined: "Frederica in Georgia, Oct. 8, 1738" and the other "Savannah in Georgia, Oct. 22, 1738", telling of Oglethorpe's arrival at Savannah, the Indians' reception, and defenses against Spanish encroachments, and more (see photos). These letters take nearly two pages with interesting reading from the founding period of the colony of Georgia, and great to have a period mention of Oglethorpe! The issue measures about 5 by 8 inches and is in nice condition save for browning & foxing mainly on the first 2 leaves but scattered throughout as well. The index/cover page is also not present.
