THE PENNSYLVANIA EVENING POST, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, November 14, 1775
* Battle of Fort St. Jean
* Revolutionary War original
Most of the front page is taken up with a lengthy notice on a new work recently published titled "Political Disquisitions" which is a very anti-British look at the events of the war, and includes:
* The inhabitants of Britain, whose organs of fight are become so very dim that their rulers daily deceive them with the shadow instead of the substance..."
with much more (see photos). The front page also has an ad for "An Oration Delivered March 6, 1774...to commemorate the Bloody Tragedy of the 5th of March, 1770. By the Hon. John Hancock, Esq.".
Page 2 has some interesting text which includes: "The British troops have gallantly distinguished themselves in America; the Provincials have displayed an equal bravery. The world admires the courage of both...A reconciliation would do honour to both but a farther contest must be attended with destruction." and more (see photos).
Fully half of pg. 2 & a bit of pg. 3 are taken up with a report on the taking of the fort at St. John's, which begins: "I have the pleasure to inform you that I had the honour of marching into, & taking possession of this fortress...We have taken in the fort a considerable quantity of military stores..." with much more on this military conquest (see photos).
Page 3 has most of a column listing the: "Articles of Capitulation proposed by Major Charles Preston for his Majesty's Fort of St. John's, in the Province of Canada." (see photos).
The balance of pg. 3 is taken up with another report on the capture of the fort at St. John's.
Complete in 4 pgs., measures about 8 by 10 inches, nice condition.
