LOS ANGELES TIMES--EXTRA EDITION, September 11, 2001

* 9/11 Terrorists attack
* World Trade Center

Because most newspapers today are morning papers, most reported the tragedy of September 11 in their Sept. 12 issue. But some printed an "Extra" edition later the same day, such as this newspaper.
The banner headline reads: "TERROR ATTACK" with: "Hijacked Jets Fly Into Trade Center, Pentagon" with 3 related front page photos.
The entire issue is dedicated to coverage (with photos) of the tragedy.
The complete 8 pages of this "Extra" edition numbered S1 thru S8, in very nice condition.

AI notes: On September 11, 2001, the United States experienced a series of coordinated terrorist attacks carried out by al-Qaeda, in which four commercial airliners were hijacked. Two planes, American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175, were flown into the North and South Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, causing both towers to collapse within hours and killing thousands of people, including first responders and civilians. A third plane, American Airlines Flight 77, struck the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, while the fourth, United Airlines Flight 93, crashed in a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, after passengers attempted to overcome the hijackers, likely preventing an attack on the White House or Capitol. Nearly 3,000 people were killed and thousands more injured, and the attacks triggered immediate nationwide grounding of flights, widespread panic, and long-term health crises from dust and debris exposure. In response, the U.S. launched the War on Terror, including the invasion of Afghanistan to dismantle al-Qaeda and remove the Taliban from power, established the Department of Homeland Security, and implemented sweeping security measures, while the attacks left a profound mark on American society, culture, and politics, commemorated through memorials at Ground Zero, the Pentagon, and Pennsylvania.
