Bobby Fischer to win World Chess Championship....

Item # 714975

July 24, 1972

THE SPRINGFIELD UNION, Mass., July 24, 1972

* World Chess Championship (1972)
* Bobby Fischer vs. Boris Vasilievich Spassky
* First American to eventually win (game 6)

The front page has a two column heading: "Fischer Surprise Sinks Spassky" First report coverage continues on page 2 with move by move description and illustration of the board. (see images)
I suspect this to be an extremely rare item because there was really no reason to save it at the time.
Complete with 28 pages, a little spine wear, generally nice.

wikipedia notes: This game was notable for two things. First, Fischer played the Queen's Gambit for the first time in his life in a serious game; second, he played it to perfection, the game indeed casting doubt on Black's whole opening system."
The win gave Fischer the lead (3½–2½) for the first time in the match.
