D-Day "Extra" edition in a military newspaper...
Item # 704543
June 06, 1944
BEACON Extra! Extra! Extra!, Philadelphia Navy Yard, June 6, 1944
* D-Day invasion of France (1st report)
* World War II German defense
The banner headline reports: "INVASION STARTED" with subheads: "Landing Craft, With Plane and Ship Support, Pour Men And Supplies Into Beaches" "Admiral Draemel Calls for Greatest Effort, Says There Must Be No Rest Until Such Haw Set On Axis".
The entire back page (page 2) is taken up with photos headed: "Scenes Such as Below are Duplicated Thousands of Times as European Invasion Starts" (these are not invasion photos).
The page number "two" is at the top of the reverse, but we believe this to be complete as a single sheet issue given it is an "Extra" edition to report D-Day. No front page articles are continued.
Nice to have this major event from World War II reported in a military base newspaper.
Measures 10 1/2 by 16 inches, very nice condition printed on high-quality paper stock.
