April 11, 1865

NEW YORK TIMES, April 11, 1865  This issue reports the events the day after Lee surrendered to Grant.
The first column on the front page sets the tone for the text which filled the entire front page, with the heads including: "THE REJOICING" "How the Glorious News Is Received" "The Quiet & Reverent Gratitude of the People" "New York City Preparing to Welcome Peace" "A Widespread Spirit of Charity & Forgiveness" "Flags, Salutes, Speeches & Crimes" "The Great Jubilee Throughout the Entire Country" "How the American People Bear Their Grand Triumph".
Keep in mind that the previous day's issue of the 'Times' had the historic report of the surrender of Lee to Grant at Appomattox Court House, essentially signaling the end of the Civil War.
Related reporting carries over to the inside pages as well, with a pg. 4 printing of "A Proclamation By the President--Respecting Vessels Entering Southern Ports" with the document signed in type: Abraham Lincoln.
Complete in 8 pages, nice condition.
