Keep in mind that the previous day's issue of the 'Times' had the historic report of the surrender of Lee to Grant at Appomattox Court House, essentially signaling the end of the Civil War.
Related reporting carries over to the inside pages as well, with a pg. 4 printing of "A Proclamation By the President--Respecting Vessels Entering Southern Ports" with the document signed in type: Abraham Lincoln.
