Louisa May Alcott's death report in a Boston women's suffrage journal...

Item # 683073

March 10, 1888

THE WOMAN'S JOURNAL, Boston, Mass., March 10, 1888

* Louisa May Alcott's death
* Day of her father's funeral
* Rare Women's suffrage periodical

Immediately following the detailed obituary of Louisa May Alcott's father is: "Louisa May Alcott is no more", it being the lead statement announcing her death which occurred on the same day as her father' funeral. Considerable details follow, taking more than two full columns. See images for details. Great to have this sad event printed in a newspaper published a mere 30 minutes from her home. It is interesting to note she was born on her father's birthday and died on the day of his funeral.

The Woman's Journal is a rare women's suffrage paper founded in 1870, edited by Lucy Stone, H.B. Blackwell and Alice (Stone) Blackwell, with contributions by Julia Ward Howe, Mary Livermore and a host of other notables of the early suffrage movement. Published: "...to the interests of Woman, to her educational, industrial, legal & political Equality, & especially to her right of Suffrage." as noted on the front page.

Eight pages, a small library stamp on the front page, otherwise quite nice.
