NEWBURYPORT HERALD, Massachusetts, July 12, 1844  Page 2 has over half a column with a small heading: "The Mormons" which begins with a brief history of the Mormons settling in Nauvoo, Illinois. It then goes to another small heading: "Death of the Prophet!" which begins: "Joe and Hiram Smith are Dead!...shocking intelligence from the scene of the Mormon war...Joe and Hiram Smith are dead--shot this afternoon. An art track from the Mormons is expected every hour..." and what follows are the details which lead to the deaths.
Further on are additional reports with small headings: "Murder of Joe Smith" and: "The Murder of the Mormons".
An excellent account of this notable event in Mormon history.
Four pages, some archival strengthening at the blank spine, where there is a bit of loss but not close to any text. Nice condition.
