SPRINGFIELD REPUBLICAN, Massachusetts, Dec. 31, 1831 The front page has 1 1/2 columns taken up with: "A Brazilian Slave Ship". Then close to a full column is headed: "Baltimore and Ohio Railroad" which notes in part: "...an account of the opening of this road from the city of Baltimore to the town of Frederick, a distance of 60 miles..." with more.
This is notable in American railroad history, as the B & O Railroad was the first common carrier railroad and the oldest railroad in the United States.
Four pages, good condition.
