The bottom of the front page of the sport's section has a small photo of Jordan with text that includes: "Chicago's Michael Jordan was named NBA's Most Valuable Player Wednesday" (see) The top of page 15 has a heading: "Jordan adds MVP to list of NBA honors" (see)
But what is absolutely terrific is a full page poster-like Nike advertisement (page 5) showing Jordan with Mars Blackmon with a heading along the bottom: "THE MVP ON MARS" "Congratulations, Michael" (see) Nike teamed up with Jordan and Mars in 1988 and I looked at several issues prior to this one to try to find another and could not. Could this be one of the earliest ads featuring these two in a publication ? And the fact that this ad appears when he won his first MVP makes it unique. Also I suspect since this was a national newspaper, it may be one of the few publications to feature these Nike advertisements.
