NEW YORK HERALD, June 29, 1865

* Civil War soldiers returning to baseball

The back page has: "Base Ball A Grand Match At Hoboken--The Mutual Club In The Field--The Second Contest For The Championship--An Immense Assemblage Of Spectators--The Finest Played Game Of The Season, Etc." This is a nice summary of a game between the Empire and Mutuals clubs, that begins: "The national game of ball of America has received an immense impetuous since the close of the war. The return of hundreds of players from the South to their homes has materially strengthened the various clubs throughout the country, and thus far the season has opened more auspiciously than any since 1860, when a perfect furor for base ball existed in every Northern state in the Union...".
More about the game, plus the box score.
Eight pages, good condition.
