Earliest "feature" article on Lincoln we have found...

Item # 672634 ·
THE GREENSBOROUGH PATRIOT, (Greensboro), North Carolina, Sept. 16, 1848  The back page has a fascinating article concerning Representative Abraham Lincoln, and is the earliest "feature" article on Lincoln we have seen in a newspaper.
Abraham Lincoln was a Representative to the Federal Congress serving just one term, from March, 1847 thru March, 1849.
Titled: "A Humorous Speech" the text--taking about one-third of a column--begins: "In the House of Representatives...Mr. Lincoln made the 'crack speech' of the day. He is a very able, acute, uncouth, honest, upright man, and a tremendous wag withal!..." and goes on to detail his criticism of General Lewis Cass, his military exploits, and his political ambitions (he ran for President in 1848).
Near the end is: "...Mr. Lincoln said he was himself something of a military hero; he was out in the Black Hawk war and was just about as near a fight as Gen. Cass ever was..." with more.
Terrific that the article mentions Lincoln's involvement in the Black Hawk War--the only newspaper report we have seen with this mention--as well as comments on his character.
Four pages, nice condition.
