CHARLESTON DAILY COURIER, South Carolina, May 3, 1864  This was one of only a few newspapers from the Confederacy which printed: "Confederate States Of America" in the dateline. Kirby Smith--Complete Defeat of the Enemy-Capture of Guns, Small Arms..-Great Victory of Gen. Price" "From Dalton--Cavalry Skirmishing" "From the Southwest--Enemy Falling Back--Alarm at Vicksburg--General Price Defeats Steele--Marmaduke In Pursuit" "Siege of Charleston" & other smaller items.
