This issue contains a very significant development in the history of motion pictures. An interior page has an article: "The Photographing of Motion" by the framed Mr. Muybridge, whose earlier work on photographing a horse's gallop transformed the way we understood that motion.

Here his work focuses on: "The Successive Phases in the Motion of a Man Running" with a print showing just that (see photos).
This was very early work on motion pictures and would create the foundation for an industry which would not fully bloom until the 20th century.

Complete in 16 pages, never bound nor trimmed, tiny library stamp at the top of page 1, great condition.
