THE GENTLEMAN'S MAGAZINE, London, August, 1743 Within this issue is a nice & quite detailed full page map headed: "Plan of the Battle of Dettingen, as Published by Authority" plus a full page key noting the various locations on the map (see photos). The Battle of Dettingen, part of the War of Austrian Succession,  was a highly significant victory for the British Army, being the only time in modern history that a British force has been led into battle by a reigning monarch: King George II.

Although ostensibly fighting to preserve Flanders from the predations of Louis XVs French armies, the British armys presence on the Continent from 1742 was as much to preserve the independence of Hanover; King George II being Elector of Hanover. The British force constituted part of what was known as the Pragmatic Army; comprising British, Austrian and Hanoverian troops.
You get the complete 50+ page issue which includes the full title/index page which has a engraving of St. John's Gate. Measures about 4 3/4 by 8 inches, very nice condition.
