COLUMBIAN CENTINEL, Boston, July 4, 1818  The front page has not only an unusually lengthy article headed: "Horse-Racing" but a very early one as well, as horse racing in the States did not become popular until many years later.

SPRINGFIELD REPUBLICAN, Massachusetts, June 20, 1867

Near the bottom of page 2 is a seemingly innocuous report but which has great significance in the sport of horse racing: the very first running of the Belmont Stakes.

WILKES' SPIRIT OF THE TIMES, New York, Sept. 22, 1860  Basically a sports-themed newspaper. The front page has a nice print of the horse: "Planet...", the very famous race horse.
An inside page has a heading: "Base Ball" which contains 14 box scores.
Complete in 16 pages, decorative masthead, minor margin wear, good condition.

SPIRIT OF THE TIMES, New York, Sept. 15, 1860  This was a sporting-themed newspaper, however at this point in its career this newspaper was primarily about horse racing to the exclusion of most other sports. One article is headed: "Lexington Races & Fair".
Twelve pages, nice condition.

HARPER'S WEEKLY, New York, August 26, 1865  The most notable prints would be the two full page prints by noted artist Winslow Homer, titled: "Our Watering Places--The Empty Sleeve at Newport" showing a Civil War veteran with one arm missing, and: "Our Watering Places--Horse Racing at Saratoga".
