This is the world's oldest continually published English language newspaper, having begun in 1665 and is still printing in London to this day. And this is a very early, genuine issue. He would become president 33 years later under the same scrutiny. I suspect this to be a tremendously rare item because there was really no reason to save it at the time.

A very graphic issue on the funeral of President James Garfield, who was born & raised in a Cleveland suburb and is buried in Cleveland.
The top of the front page has two large illustrations showing: "The Pavilion And Catafalque" and: "The Funeral Car". Front page column heads report on the details of the funeral ceremonies. Page 4 has a black-bordered print of: "James Abram Garfield".

THE PEOPLE'S ADVOCATE, Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Sept. 24, 1816  This very uncommon title began with this issue, being volume 1, number 1 (not noted as such by verified in Brigham), ending on May 17, 1817, existing for just 8 months.
This newspaper did not have current news of the day but rather was a campaign newspaper in its early weeks, becoming a regular newspaper closer to its demise.

ILLUSTRATED NEWS, New York, Sept. 24, 1853  Formatted much like Harper's Weekly, but published 4 years previous to the more famous title. P.T. Barnum was a "Special Partner" in this publication as noted on one of the back pages.

As for the balance of the issue: the front page is taken up with a print captioned; "At The Window--A Brief Respite in a Weary Struggle" showing Garfield recovering from being shot (he would die very soon)

JUDGE magazine, New York, September 24, 1927  The cover of this issue is entitled "Plane Jane" and is an illustration of a lady pilot about to climb into a plane. The issue is comprised of a variety of articles, poems, illustrations, stories and advertisements.

This is complete in 34 pages measuring approximately 11.25 x 8.5 inches and is in nice condition.
