THE NATIONAL REGISTER, Washington, Feb. 22, 1817  An uncommon title that existed from March 2, 1816 thru Dec. 7, 1820. As the photos show the format was very much like the more popular 'Niles Weekly Register' which began in 1811, but not remotely as successful.
Politics of the day seems to consume the issue although there are occasional bits of nonpolitical items.
Sixteen pages, 6 1/4 by 9 1/2 inches, scattered foxing, good condition.

Inside has the President's address: "To the Senate & House of Representatives of the United States" concerning: "...the indemnification of certain claimants of public lands in the Mississippi Territory..." with more, signed in type:

Also two letters on the: "Neutrality of the United States" each signed in type: James Monroe. This is followed by: General Harrison's Case".

NILES' WEEKLY REGISTER, Baltimore, Feb. 15, 1817  Featured is a chart showing that James Monroe is in the lead for Presidency of the United States. Another report has much detail on: "Cleopatra's Barge".
Five pages are taken up with considerable detail on: "Naval Depot" "Report of the Secretary of the Navy...Information Relating to the Selection of a Site for a Navy Depot" in the Chesapeake Bay. Included is a very lengthy report signed: Stephen Decatur.
This is complete in 16 pages, 6 1/4 x 9

NILES' WEEKLY REGISTER, Baltimore, Feb. 22, 1817  The first two pages are taken up with a lengthy report signed in type by: D. Porter, being: "...the communication made by captain David Porter, commissioner of the navy in relation to the site for a naval depot & the best means to be adopted for the defence of the Chesapeake bay." The report begins: "Hampton Roads, it is believed, could be fortified to advantage by means of batteries placed on Old Point Comford & on the shoal of Willoughby's

NILES' WEEKLY REGISTER, Baltimore, Feb. 1, 1817 Content includes: "Indian Treaties" which includes the synopsis of  8 treaties with various tribes.
Also: "Contracts--War & Navy Departments" "Army of the United States" which includes a detailed chart of "Fortifications" "Corps" & more; The Case of Judge Bland"; much reporting from Congress including a document signed: James Monroe.
Sixteen pages, 6 by 9 1/2 inches, lite rubbing to the front page, otherwise in nice condition.

As noted in

NEW YORK SPECTATOR, Feb. 19, 1817  The top of the front page as an announcing: "According to the provisions of the constitution the votes...for President and Vice President were yesterday counted...was officially proclaimed by the President of the Senate that JAMES MONROE is elected President...and DANIEL D. TOMPKINS is elected Vice President..." (see).
Four pages, never-trimmed margins, small hole near the top of front leaf not close to the noted content, loss to a lower corner of the back
