  • Best original "A.I. Artificial Intelligencer" advertisement
  • Grand Opening Day movie premiere review
  • Science Fiction film by Steven Spielberg

A terrific issue on the premiere of the motion picture hit "A.I. ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE" and perhaps no better issue could be found than this, the leading newspaper from the home of the entertainment industry - the Hollywood area's prime publication.

Note: Where else might one find authentic, poster-size ads for Opening Day showings, in the most desirable Hollywood-area newspaper - as we were lucky enough to obtain this (and others) indirectly from the Los Angeles Times' own collection? It simply doesn't get any better! In over 40 years of collecting, we have yet to see such unique & dramatic coverage with truly top-shelf, eye-catching displayability (see images).

The front page of this section has a review of the film headed: "Mechanically Inclined" with 2 related photos. And perhaps more significant is the terrific double full page poster-like advertisement for the film printed on it's opening day on pages 6 & 7. (see images).
A quite rare issue as it would not have been saved since it contains no historically significant content. Complete "Calendar" section only with 32 pages, very nice condition.

Background: Directed by Steven Spielberg and born from decades of development by Stanley Kubrick, A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001) is a seminal science fiction masterpiece that bridges Kubrick's stark, philosophical skepticism with Spielberg's signature emotional depth. Set in a climate-ravaged future where humanity relies on synthetic humanoids ("Mecha"), the story follows David (Haley Joel Osment)—a prototype child robot programmed with the capacity for genuine love—who embarks on a dark, Pinocchio-inspired odyssey across a dystopian America to become a "real boy" after being abandoned by his adoptive mother. The film holds profound artistic and cultural significance for its eerie prescience regarding artificial consciousness, ethics, and human replaceability, as well as its groundbreaking blend of practical effects and pioneer CGI by Industrial Light & Magic. Beyond its cinematic craftsmanship and John Williams’s hauntingly melancholic score, A.I. endures as a complex, deeply poignant exploration of the tragedy of unrequited affection, the nature of memory, and what it truly means to be human in an increasingly automated world.
