Background: On September 2, 1934, the Boston Braves hosted "Rabbit Maranville Day" to honor their legendary infielder after a catastrophic broken leg in spring training sidelined the 41-year-old veteran for the entire regular season. Despite his inability to take the field, thousands of fans gathered at Braves Field during a Sunday doubleheader against the Philadelphia Phillies to celebrate his two-decade career and beloved, charismatic personality. The emotional tribute highlighted Maranville's enduring status as a franchise icon and fan favorite, capped off by the Braves sweeping the Phillies in both games—including an 11–2 rout in the opener—before Maranville returned for a brief 23-game swan song the following year prior to his eventual induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
