Background: On May 13, 1935, legendary British hero T.E. Lawrence—widely known as "Lawrence of Arabia"—suffered a fatal motorcycle crash near his Dorset cottage while swerving to avoid two cyclists on his high-performance Brough Superior SS100. He never regained consciousness and died six days later from severe head trauma at the age of 46. Beyond the tragic loss of a towering historical figure, this accident profoundly altered public safety: the attending neurosurgeon, Sir Hugh Cairns, was so deeply impacted that he launched groundbreaking research into motorcycle head injuries, ultimately laying the scientific foundation for the modern mandatory crash helmet and saving countless lives worldwide.
