Background: On September 7, 1947, the original Baltimore Colts made their historic regular-season debut in the All-America Football Conference (AAFC), defeating the Brooklyn Dodgers 16–7 before a crowd of 27,418 at Municipal Stadium under head coach Cecil Isbell. This inaugural contest held immense local and historical significance, as it formally marked Baltimore’s entry into major modern professional football and introduced the iconic Colts moniker—chosen by community contest to honor Maryland's rich horse-racing heritage—while the team played in distinctive green-and-silver uniforms. By securing a victory in their very first franchise game, the Colts established an immediate football culture in the city, setting the foundation for Baltimore's legendary professional football legacy that would eventually carry over into the NFL when the AAFC merged in 1950.
