John Wayne Gacy discovered... serial killer clown...

Item # 731239 ·

CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, Jan. 3, 1979

  • John Wayne Gacy in custody
  • Hunt for dead bodies in the area
  • Survivor and key witness Jeff Rignall
  • Best title to be had ? - very rare

Here is nice issue on the discovery of John Wayne Gacy's crimes in a Chicago suburb. Page 4 has a banner heading: "Body hunt may swing to N. Side". And page 76 has another related report headed: "Gacy accuser accepts continuance in court case" with photo of Jeff Rignall. (see images)
Gacy was arrested about 2 weeks earlier. Great to have this in a Chicago publication. I expect this to be an extremely rare item because there was really no reason to save it at the time.
Complete with all 112 pages, tabloid size, nice condition.

Background: In his January 2, 1979 statement to police following John Wayne Gacy’s arrest, former employee Joseph Tomaskovic provided crucial insight into Gacy's attempts to cover up his crimes, recalling how he repeatedly complained about an overpowering, sickly odor—stating it smelled like "something was dead down there"—while working on Gacy's contracting jobs. Gacy habitually dismissed these red flags as mere rotting moisture, backing-up sewage, or dead rats, while simultaneously ordering Tomaskovic to perform unusual construction tasks, such as permanently bricking off enclosed spaces to hide debris instead of renting dumpsters under the pretense that "dumpsters are expensive."
