Background: The inaugural game of the iconic Steelers-Browns rivalry took place on October 7, 1950, at Pittsburgh’s Forbes Field, marking the first NFL meeting between the franchises following the Cleveland Browns' absorption from the All-America Football Conference (AAFC). The Browns established early dominance in what would become one of pro football's fiercest rivalries, securing a 30–17 victory behind Hall of Fame quarterback Otto Graham's two rushing touchdowns and running back Dub Jones's 76-yard, two-score performance. Though Pittsburgh took an early 3–0 lead on a Joe Geri field goal, Cleveland answered with 23 straight points—including a third-quarter safety—setting the stage for an era where the Browns won their first eight matchups against the Steelers through 1953 before Pittsburgh finally notched its first victory in the series in 1954.
