Background: Played on January 1, 1943, at Burdine Stadium in Miami, Florida, the 9th annual Orange Bowl featured a thrilling comeback as the #10 Alabama Crimson Tide defeated the #8 Boston College Eagles 37–21 in front of 25,166 fans. Boston College took an early 14–0 lead in the first quarter powered by two touchdowns from star running back Mike Holovak, but Alabama responded with a furious 22-point second-quarter explosion—highlighted by touchdown catches from Wheeler Leeth and Ted Cook, a scoring run by Tom Jenkins, and a George Hecht field goal—to capture a 22–21 halftime lead. The Crimson Tide completely dominated the second half, holding the Eagles scoreless while adding a touchdown run by Johnny August, a second Jenkins touchdown, and a safety forced by Joe Domnanovich to secure the victory in Alabama's inaugural Orange Bowl appearance.
