Background: On September 22, 1936, former heavyweight contender Joe Louis faced local Philadelphia boxer Al Ettore at Municipal Stadium before a crowd of over 40,000 spectators. Serving as a crucial rebuilding bout following Louis's stunning first career loss to Max Schmeling three months prior, the fight saw Ettore mount a surprisingly brave effort early on, even taking the third round by pressing the action. However, Louis quickly asserted his dominant power in the fourth round by dropping Ettore twice, before closing the contest in the fifth with a sharp combination capped by a brutal left hook that knocked Ettore face-first into the ropes to score a knockout, improving Louis's record to 28–1 (24 KOs) and putting his path toward the World Heavyweight Championship back on track.
