Background: On October 27, 1986, the New York Mets capped off a dominant 108-win season by defeating the Boston Red Sox 8–5 in Game 7 at Shea Stadium to capture their second World Series title. After falling behind 3–0 early against Red Sox starter Bruce Hurst, the Mets launched a furious second-half rally starting in the bottom of the sixth inning with run-scoring singles from Keith Hernandez and Gary Carter to tie the game. In the seventh, Series MVP Ray Knight broke the deadlock with a go-ahead home run, fueling a three-run inning that put New York ahead for good. Reliever Jesse Orosco sealed the championship by striking out Marty Barrett for the final out—famously flinging his glove high into the air and falling to his knees in celebration—to complete one of the most thrilling and iconic World Series comebacks in Major League Baseball history.
