Richard Ramirez, the 'Night Stalker', in a Los Angeles newspaper...
LOS ANGELES TIMES, Aug. 26, 1985
- Richard Ramirez murders
- The "Night Stalker" rapist - killer
- His final home invasion before arrest
- Close to his capture - best title to be had ?
This issue has reporting on the "Night Stalker" murder case of Richard Ramirez with a front page, one column heading: "Valley Intruder Assaults Two in Orange County" Coverage continues on page 3. This was last attack made by Ramirez before his capture 5 days later. Both victims survived. Great to have this report in a Los Angeles newspaper, the city which he terrorized for over a year. I suspect this to be an extremely rare item because their was really no reason to save it at the time.
Complete 1st two sections only with a total 28 pages, very nice condition.
Background: In the early morning hours of August 25, 1985, serial killer Richard Ramirez, known as the "Night Stalker," committed his final home invasion in Mission Viejo, Orange County, breaking into a residence on Chrisanta Drive through an unlocked window. Ramirez shot 29-year-old computer engineer William "Bill" Carns three times in the head as he slept, severely injuring him, before binding, assaulting, and threatening Carns' girlfriend while demanding money and asserting Satanic threats. Remarkably, both victims survived, with Carns recovering despite long-term neurological damage. This attack proved to be the critical turning point in ending Ramirez's terror campaign: a 13-year-old neighbor, James Romero III, spotted Ramirez’s suspicious orange 1976 Toyota station wagon prior to the break-in and noted part of its license plate number for police. Law enforcement subsequently recovered the abandoned vehicle in Los Angeles, where forensic investigators lifted a clear fingerprint from the rearview mirror. Using California's newly implemented Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS), police matched the print to 25-year-old Ramirez, leading directly to the public release of his mugshot and his dramatic capture by an East Los Angeles neighborhood crowd on August 31, 1985.
