1978 "Diana Ross" live concerts advertisement...

Item # 729907 ·
LOS ANGELES TIMES, Aug. 6, 1978 (an original vintage newspaper leaf from the Calendar section)  This offering consists of four complete pages (two double-sided sheets on one single leaf) featuring a collectible print advertisement for upcoming live performances by "DIANA ROSS" at Universal Amphitheatre on one of the four pages.

In addition to the feature concert ad, which captures the era's unique promotional graphic design and typography, the surrounding pages provide a fascinating cultural snapshot of late 20th-century entertainment. Printed on authentic aged newsprint with genuine vintage toning, this original leaf is not a modern reprint, making it an ideal candidate for custom framing, local history display, or inclusion in a dedicated rock or pop culture memorabilia collection.

Experience music history in the making with authentic, original newspaper advertisements capturing the opening-night premieres of legendary live concert performances, sourced straight from the entertainment capital of the world.

Background: Diana Ross’s week-long engagement at Universal City’s open-air Universal Amphitheatre—launched on September 19, 1978—holds particular historical rarity because it served as the exclusive live testing ground for her overlooked, self-titled 1978 LP Ross. Conceived and choreographed by David Winters as a theatrical "extravaganza," the show broke away from her standard hit-heavy revue to incorporate fresh, rare live arrangements of synth-heavy cosmic disco tracks like "Lovin', Livin' and Givin'" alongside her Ashford & Simpson-penned dance single "What You Gave Me". Beyond these short-lived set additions, the engagement stands out for its unique archival footprint: despite never being released as a standalone commercial live album or concert film, prime televised excerpts—including her rare live rendition of "Gettin' Ready for Love"—were captured for broadcast on The Barbara Walters Special later that fall. This makes the 1978 Universal Amphitheatre run a sought-after chapter for collectors and fans, capturing a transitional period right before her massive late-disco peak with The Boss (1979) and Diana (1980).
