1979 opening day premiere of "The Amityville Horror" film advertisement...

Item # 729663 ·
LOS ANGELES TIMES, July 22, 1976 (an original vintage newspaper leaf from the Calendar section)  This offering consists of four complete pages (two double-sided sheets on one single leaf), serving as a rare piece of cinematic ephemera, highlighted by an original vintage print advertisement announcing the opening day release of  "THE AMITYVILLE HORROR" starring James Brolin on one of the pages. (see images).

In addition to the featured movie ad, which captures the era's distinct theatrical promotional graphics and classic key art, the surrounding pages provide a fascinating snapshot of late 20th-century entertainment and pop culture. Printed on authentic newsprint with genuine vintage toning, this original leaf is not a modern reprint, making it an ideal piece for custom framing, film history display, or inclusion in a dedicated cinema memorabilia collection.

Background: Directed by Stuart Rosenberg, the 1979 cinematic adaptation of The Amityville Horror stands out as a unique relic of late-1970s pop-culture history, deriving its notable notoriety from its sensationalized framing as an allegedly "true story" based on the Lutz family's 28-day ordeal following the real-life 1974 DeFeo mass murder. Visually defined by its iconic "eye-like" quarter-round windows—a distinctive design feature crafted on a Jersey shore replica set after the actual town of Amityville denied filming permits—the movie cemented rare, unsettling set pieces into the horror canon, such as swarms of unseasonal houseflies attacking a priest (Rod Steiger), black sludge oozing from toilets, walls bleeding, and terrifying glimpses of "Jody," a glowing, demonic red-eyed pig. Elevating its standard haunted-house tropes into an eerie psychological study, James Brolin’s performance as a father slowly descending into axe-wielding, possessed madness—combined with Lalo Schifrin’s Oscar-nominated, lullaby-turned-demonic score—helped turn the modest $4.7 million production into an extraordinary, history-making box-office juggernaut for independent studio AIP.
