Page 97 has a nice full page advertisement for "QUEEN" concerts at Madison Square Garden.
Background: The November 1978 Madison Square Garden shows marked a critical turning point where Queen solidified their transition from an ambitious, theatrical British rock band into an unstoppable, stadium-conquering global phenomenon. By selling out the most famous arena in America for two consecutive nights on the Jazz tour, the band proved that their genre-blending, operatic brand of rock had fully captivated the mainstream US market, cementing them alongside acts like Led Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones in terms of box-office draw. Culturally, the concerts captured Queen at a fascinating aesthetic crossroads; Freddie Mercury was actively shedding his mid-70s zandra rhodes unitards in favor of the raw, leather-clad, high-octane stage persona that would define 1980s stadium rock. Furthermore, the shows served as the ultimate validation of their uncompromising creative risks—perfectly encapsulated by the infamous "Bicycle Race" promotional stunt on stage, and deeply personalized by Brian May finally earning his father’s approval after trading a career in astrophysics for rock-and-roll royalty.
I suspect this to be an extremely rare item because there was really no reason to save it at the time.
The Village Voice was an American counterculture newspaper known for being the country's first alternative newsweekly. It introduced free-form, high-spirited, and passionate journalism into the public discourse - a tradition it maintained throughout its 60+ year history. It is quite common to find great political cartoons, satirical cartoons and articles, thought-provoking editorials, and ads and reviews for both concerts and theater productions - both on and off Broadway. Many iconic writers and musicians credit their appearance in The Village Voice for at least a portion of their success.
One hundred and eighty pages, missing the front and back leafs (pages 1-2 & 183-184), minor margin wear, the Queen ad is fine, otherwise nice.
