NEW YORK WORLD-TELEGRAM, October 17, 1936

* "Around the World in 20 Days"
* "The Great Race Around the World"
* Three NYC journalists publicity stunt

The front page has a banner heading: "Ekins Set for Final Hop Across Pacific" with subheads. (see images) Coverage continues on page 3 with related pictorial. Bud Ekins would be the eventual winner and he was the journalist from this very publication making it a very rare item.
Complete with all 36 pages, light toning and a little wear at the margins, small binding holes along the spine, generally nice.

Background: The October 17, 1936, edition of the New York World-Telegram stands as an exceptionally rare and historically significant artifact that captures the climactic, triumphant peak of the global aviation race directly from the home publication of its eventual winner, Herbert Roslyn "Bud" Ekins. Featuring a bold, front-page banner headline declaring "Ekins Set for Final Hop Across Pacific," this complete 36-page issue serves as a primary source documenting the exact moment Ekins was poised to secure his victory by mastering the era's complex, fragmented network of airships, flying boats, and ground transport. The true historical value of this specific artifact lies in its preservation of unedited, real-time media momentum; while competitor newspapers were tracking their delayed journalists, the World-Telegram used this publication to visually map out and legitimize the dawn of commercial global transit for a fascinated public. Beyond the front-page aviation drama, the preservation of all 36 pages offers an invaluable cultural capsule of the mid-1930s—interweaving a watershed moment in human transport history with the daily domestic realities, advertisements, and political anxieties of a world on the brink of modern transformation.
