Background: The Wheatley tornado of 1929 struck the town of Wheatley, Arkansas, on May 5, 1929, and was one of the most devastating tornadoes to hit the region during that era. The powerful twister, believed to be an F4 on the Fujita scale, caused widespread destruction, flattening homes, uprooting trees, and leaving the town in ruins. At least 16 people were killed and many others injured, with entire families affected. Relief efforts were hampered by limited infrastructure, and survivors had to rely on outside aid for recovery. The tornado remains a significant event in Arkansas's severe weather history.
