FITCHBURG SENTINEL--EXTRA, Massachusetts, Nov. 7, 1916 Long before the more notable error headline was given nationwide attention, a few newspapers incorrectly reported that Charles Evans Hughes had defeated Woodrow Wilson for the presidency.
The banner headline reads: "Hughes' Election 'Flashed' In New York City" with subhead: "Republican Candidate Sweeps New York State by 175,000 and Democratic and Republican Papers Concede His Election".
Eight pages, a few minor margin tears, nice condition.
