Rumors that Lincoln was elected President...
SACRAMENTO DAILY UNION, California, Nov. 14, 1860 Given that news to the West Coast was delayed by Pony Express travel (telegraph lines were incomplete to the West), it is not surprising that at this late date, Lincoln's election was not assured.
The page 2 report is headed: "Oregon Election--Lincoln Probably Successful..." with the report giving the numbers known at the time. East Coast papers announced Lincoln's election on November 7.
Four pages, very nice condition.
