Lincoln to speak at the Cooper Institute...
THE NEW-YORK TIMES, February 23, 1860 Page 5 has an inconspicuous notice stating that Abraham Lincoln is scheduled to speak at the Cooper Institute.
The notice reads in full: "Hon. Abraham Lincoln, Of Illinois, will speak at the Cooper Institute, This Monday Evening, Feb. 27, to the Republicans of New-York."
A great item relating to the famous speech delivered by Mr. Lincoln a few months before he would be nominated as the presidential candidate for the Republican Party.
Lincoln's Cooper Union speech, delivered just 4 days after this notice, significantly impacted his political career and the course of the nation. It's considered pivotal because it not only cemented his candidacy as a leading contender for the Republican nomination but also demonstrated his strength as a debater and articulator of anti-slavery principles, ultimately contributing to his election as president.
