THE LONDON EVENING POST, England, Oct. 16, 1779  The front page has an item beginning: "General Washington to his army lately gave notice in orders in the following sentence: Holland yields us every aid we ask in the commercial line, and there are reasons to believe the period is not far distant when she will acknowledge our Independence...". And further on is: "...was reported yesterday that a Spanish Ambassador is now preparing to set out in great pomp for America; he is to go in a man of war & two frigates are to accompany him there laden with rich presents for the Congress and American leaders."
The back page also has some news from the war, including: "...that Sir Henry Clinton is preparing to embark for Georgia with 6,000 men; leaving Lord Cornwallis in the command at New York...to Georgia, that province is likely to become the scene of important decisions...".
